If you’re a musician, then the best thing about Christmas is the fantastic music!
Usually, after singing from 12:00 – 2 p.m. and 6:00- 12:00 midnight on Christmas Eve, (yes that’s a total of approximately 8 hours), I go to a pancake breakfast & celebration from 12:30 – 3:30 a.m.
This year, the pancake breakfast didn’t occur.
So I considered it a blessing to accept an invitation to lead musical worship with my new friend the Reverend Mother Mandy Brady at Canterbury Court on Sunday, December 25, 2015 at 10 a.m.
And wasn’t the music gorgeous! Together as a congregation, we sang the hymnbook’s greatest hits:
- O come, all ye faithful
- Hark, the herald angels sing
- What child is this
- Angels we have heard on high
- Silent night, holy night
- Joy to the world
Additionally, I played my violin and sang “Es ist ein Rose” and “Night of Silence.”
This worship service was designed for Canterbury Court residents who wanted to attend a traditional church service on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, yet were unable to leave the retirement home.
My prayer is that I brought as much light and joy to the worship service as this photo from my favorite photographer suggests. I certainly hope so!
